The Sopranos Box SetsHome >Introduction The Sopranos is a fictional account of a New Jersey Mafia family. Many people believe it is based upon the real life ' DeCavalcante family' crime family of New Jersey. FBI recordings have recorded members of 'the DeCavalcante family' discussing this very fact. However, the creator and producer, David Chase, has dismissed any such link. The series was first aired on HBO in the US, on January 10th, 1999. It ran until June 10th, 2007, composing six seasons and a total of eighty six episodes. The show was aired on Channel 4/E4 in the UK, and has also aired on broadcasters worldwide. The show is widely regarded as amongst the best tv programmes ever made. This was born out, by the number of Emmy and Golden Globe awards it has received.
While there are six seasons, the sixth season was separated into two parts, and there are box sets for each part. The Sopranos Reviewsmike Said, I am owner of every boxset, except for season 6 part 1. For some reason I never felt the need to own that season. I watched it on the tv, but it seemed a little too drawn out and slow, with all the action awaiting for part 2. The storyline of Chris and his girl, who Tony desired, the relapse into drugs, seemed to run over old ground, and bored me. That's not to say I wont buy the box set for part 1, once it lowers in price. For those who haven't watched the Sopranos, be warned, there maybe a few spoilers in my review. I would have to say I enjoyed season 1 and 2 the most, especially the first one. Season 3 did not live upto my expectation, the meadow and jackie jnr storyline was not as exciting as the wrestles for control of the family in the previous seasons. Although season 3 did feature one of my favourite episodes, pine barrens, with the mystery of the missing Russian. Season 4 was even slower than number 3, virtually nothing of note occurred, and I would easily conclude it's the weakest season. While it ended in explosion, Carmela soon accepted Tony back in the next season, so when you watch season 4 again, it does not quite have the same effect. Season 5 is a return to form, I loved it nearly as much as the first two seasons. The hostilities with New York begin to build, and the second to last episode, when Adriana is shot is a tour de force. The final season, part 2, is likewise just as tense. I would probably rate it my favourite season. The darkness and tension is almost too much to bare in parts. However, the final episode was a huge letdown, clever it may have been, but it did not satisfy this fan. The Sopranos is without doubt my favourite tv show, not many people I know have watched it. They don't know what they are missing. This show is simple genius. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Add a Review
